Privacy Policy

Overview

StudyMate is a Chrome extension that uses the user's OpenRouter API key to generate study material. Selected or pasted study text is sent directly from the extension to OpenRouter and may be processed by the model provider selected by OpenRouter.

Data stored by StudyMate

• Saved study packs
• Saved test marksheets and question-level answer reviews
• Saved notes and tags
• Source page titles and URLs associated with saved content
• Extension settings
• The user's OpenRouter API key and selected model ID

This information is stored in chrome.storage.local in the user's Chrome profile. The API key is stored separately from study packs, excluded from exports, and not included in the extension package.

Data transmitted for AI generation

When the user clicks Create with real AI or Generate 5 more MCQs, StudyMate sends the selected or pasted study text and generation instructions to OpenRouter. OpenRouter and the selected model provider process that request under their own terms and privacy policies.

StudyMate does not operate its own backend and does not include analytics or advertising. It does not intentionally collect passwords, cookies, payment information, or unrelated form values.

Website access

Temporary active-tab access is used after the user invokes StudyMate. Optional HTTP/HTTPS website access is requested only after the user presses Enable website access. Website access is used to read text the user has actively selected.

User controls

Users can remove the stored OpenRouter key, delete individual study packs, marksheets, or notes, clear the complete local library, remove optional website access through Chrome, or uninstall StudyMate to remove extension data.
